The Surprise That Turned Out Not To Be

Happy is the woman who makes her man happy.

Or, is she?

Somehow she still feels, when the excitement all fades away, she's still stuck in the middle of the road to nowhere.

Well, happier would be the woman, if the cat wasn't let out of the bag, just minutes before she planned to surprise the man with the gift.

URGH.

The woman had planned to pick the man up from his 'graduation' flight. She had intended to wait for him at the arrival hall - at the usual spot - but not before placing the gold-paper-wrapped gift carefully on the passenger seat, so that it would be the first thing that greeted him as he opened the car door. That would've made a pleasant surprise, wouldn't it? I'd love to see the big grin on his face when he opens the door, she'd thought to herself.

But no... her plan - her most brilliantly devised plan that could possibly bring about the happiest moment in these recent times of uncertainties - just had to be thwarted.

The woman knew from the start what she had wanted to get, but, for her own lack of 'lobangs', had to ask amongst her network of friends for help and advice, before throwing her money in for the gift. One of them would turn out to be an aviator himself. In her moment of folly (and perhaps giddiness from over-excitement), the woman had forgotten to ask if he would keep this a secret on her behalf, especially from her man, should they ever bump into each other.

Then again, she thought, what are the chances that the two of them would ever bump into each other? They don't hang out, they fly different fleets, my secret should be safe, she mistakenly thought.

Oh, what a mistaken thought indeed.

Of all things that could happen, fate would decree that the two aviators, friends made through their respective women, bump right into each other at the office - right after the man's 'graduation' flight.

The man met the woman at the 'usual spot' after he was done checking out at the office.

As they were walking towards the car in which the surprise gift was sitting, the woman decided that bad news should come before the good ones, and so she decided to first confess her other 'misdeed' - her overspending guilt trip on more shoes. "Erm... I have something to tell you..." she said while half-giggling.

The man broke into a big grin, and asked, "So where's my watch?"

Her eyes opened wide in bewilderment. She just couldn't believe her ears.

Her thoughts started racing... No, I'm very sure I had hidden the gift well from him, it couldn't have been me. No wonder the man had this glow on his face the moment he appeared at the arrival hall.

A string of foul words started spewing from her dainty little girly mouth.

What a way to end up being surprised herself.

The woman can see that the man loves his gift very much.

She is tremendously relieved, and glad. It's only money, she tells herself.

Happiness is priceless. Her efforts have not been wasted.
