Fark fark faRk farK FARK.
The first five words on my mind when a trailer sped past our rented car and whipped off the side mirror on the my driver side. I was that close to being whipped off myself.
I was, and still am, really really upset about the car - I had paid for less insurance because we were all trying to minimize cost as much as possible - now I am not sure how much that bloody side mirror is going to cost me. It made my factory outlet trip less enjoyable; every price tag I looked at, I saw the side mirror. Lesson learnt: always be safe and buy more insurance coverage because you never know what crazy thing's gonna happen to you in the US.
On hindsight, when the anger has passed, I count my blessings to have been alive.
Most of today was spent at the factory outlets. You don't actually know it, but three hours zip past pretty fast when you're there walking in and out from store to store. I think I spent more time rummaging through racks, than really trying anything on. Proud to say too I was very controlled. Damage done wasn't grave at all - maybe not so when I think about that darned side mirror.
My last few memories of Portland.
I finally found my Paul Smith glasses! They are virtually non-existent in Singapore, I couldn't find them in Hong Kong nor Bangkok. I actually found them in an eyewear store in cold quiet Portland! Too bad, the store was closed for some private function and I had no way of checking them glasses out. Well, I'll be back here in July. Heh heh heh...
One of the rare common insects (erm, irony?) I've seen in Portland, or anywhere in the US. It's amazing you don't really see ants crawling around, and best of all - cockroach-free.
I think I have a thing for yellow cars. Before I got to own my very first car, I had dreams then of owning a yellow Mazda 121 (a very hot car for young girls then). Then, after I became a car-owner (I never did own a yellow Mazda 121, by the way), my interests in wheels changed, and I longed to own humongous pick-up trucks - a yellow Ford monster pick-up would be nice, I've seen them in Malaysia.
Before we got the new car, we almost toyed with the idea of getting a Toyota Caldina, a rare species in Singapore - partly because it's rare, and also because it is darned beautiful. See how beautiful a yellow one is.
Erm, very huge advertisement. Tickled by it, I had to take this picture. See, that's the problem with us silly foreigners.
Back in downtown by 5 - supposed to catch the Pistons-Heat Game 7 at a local brewery-pub with a friend, but he pulled a fast one... again. I kinda knew it was coming. So I walked around a little more, before I headed for the pub on my own. For the first time in many days, I did not have my cup of hot chocolate.
Sitting alone at the bar (I had pretty good 'front-row' seat, right in front of the TV), enjoying freshly brewed beer, shouting and yelling together with the other patrons, who were also there alone at the bar to catch the game, I believe. I got kinda bored, called a friend from Portland, and she was there in the pub with me within the hour. Nice company. We stayed on for dinner, chats, and more (happy-hour) beer.
We got to talking a little more about my life, and it made me cry a little. See, that's the reason I don't talk.
Nice way to end my last evening in Portland.
